Heather McKay, M.Ed.
Heather McKay is a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) who provides therapy to children and adults struggling with various problems including depression, anxiety, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, adjustment disorders, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. She uses a person centered approach and values parental involvement in the counseling process when working with children and adolescents. She uses a variety of evidenced based practices depending on patient need; these practices include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. Heather believes everyone has the ability to achieve overall personal wellbeing in their lives when given the guidance and/or support to do so.
Heather completed her Master’s of Education in Mental Health at Heritage University in 2008, and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Eastern State University 2004. Prior to graduate school Heather worked in the school setting as a Prevention Specialist. Heather has eight years post graduate experience working with both adults and children in a community mental health setting. She has formal training in EMDR through an EMDRIA certified trainer. She has been trained in Trauma Focused CBT, CBT-plus, Motivational Interviewing, and person centered planning.
